What am I talking about? What are you talking about?
Chances are if it's political and we are from opposing parties, we are not speaking the same language.
Comprehensive immigration reform? Police reform? Social justice? Free and fair elections? Personal freedoms? We all want these things, but we need to listen more closely and choose our words more carefully, because “red” and “blue” don’t always use the same words in the same ways.
Join us for some scintillating insight on how the words and phrases we use might be roadblocks to communication and how to use language that breaks down barriers. Our guests will be Portland Press Herald/Bangor Daily News columnists Jim Fossel and Amy Fried who will share what language raises barriers and what might enable better communication.
WHY: There is a deep divide in the country, and we need to learn to have more productive conversations again - ones in which we don’t jump to conclusions or condemn others.
WHEN: Monday June 28 5:15-6:15pm (Note our later start time this month to accommodate one of the speakers.)
This meeting requires advance registration to help us plan for the session.
