Church and State: Where are the boundaries?
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."
These two clauses from the First Amendment - establishment & free exercise - provide the foundation for the separation of church and state. But the application of that separation fuels a fierce debate these days, as expressions of personal values and individual freedoms conflict.
Join us on Monday, July 24th at 5:30 pm to discuss what these clauses mean and how they are interpreted in the courts. We will use the 2022 Supreme Court ruling on the Carson v Makin case involving Bangor Christian Schools to help frame our discussion.
